I’m going to be real with you—it wasn’t always sunsets. When I first launched Matte Equation, I thought black and white was the way to go. Clean, minimal, timeless. It felt safe, polished and it made sense. But something didn’t feel right.

Let me provide a recap: when I first saw the black-and-white branding, I wanted to be excited. I wanted to feel that spark, that “yes, this is it” Albert Einstein moment. But deep down, it didn’t fully resonate with me. It looked good, sure. But it didn’t feel good. And if there’s anything I’ve learned from this journey, it’s that how something makes you feel is what matters most.

When It Doesn't Resonate, You Feel It

Launching a brand is an emotional rollercoaster. You’re out here, pouring yourself into every detail, hoping that when you step back, you’ll see something that feels 100% you. But sometimes, what you create doesn’t match the energy you were hoping for. That’s where I found myself—not fully in love with the way Matte Equation was presenting itself to the world.

And that’s hard. You invest time, energy, money into creating this thing and then you realize it’s not hitting the way you thought it would. I was incredibly torn. Do I stick with it because I’ve come this far? Or do I take a hard left and rethink everything?

The Inspiration of Sunsets

Around the time I was wrestling with this, I found myself captivated by sunsets. The colours, the way they make you feel like the day is coming to a close but also that something new is about to begin. Sunsets are a reflection of everything I wanted Matte Equation to represent: transition, beauty, depth and that in-between space where everything feels possible.

It hit me—this is what the brand should feel like. Not stark and clean, but warm, inviting and full of life. I realized I didn’t want Matte Equation to just look good—I wanted it to feel like a moment of pause, like the calm that comes at the end of the day, when the sky is filled with colours that make you stop and appreciate where you are.

The Switch

So, I decided to do something bold: I completely reimagined the brand. I let go of the black-and-white minimalism and leaned fully into a sunset-inspired palette. It was like everything clicked. Suddenly, the branding didn’t just look the way I wanted it to—it felt like home, like me. It felt like the way self-care should feel. Warm, reflective, transformative.

I’ll be honest, it wasn’t an easy decision. Changing everything mid-launch felt like a huge risk. But deep down, I knew I couldn’t build a brand that didn’t feel aligned with me. And the truth is, once I embraced the shift, everything started to fall into place. The branding, the packaging, the message—it all became a reflection of what Matte Equation is truly about: going beyond the surface, embracing change, and finding beauty in the journey.

Letting Go to Find What Feels Right

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this experience, it’s that it’s okay to pivot. It’s okay to look at something you’ve created and say, “This isn’t me. Let’s start again.” In fact, it’s more than okay—it’s necessary. When you’re building something from the ground up, you have to stay true to yourself, even if that means taking a detour.

So, here we are. Matte Equation is no longer black and white. It’s vibrant, warm and full of life—just like a sunset. And honestly? It feels like the brand I was meant to create all along.

Thank you for being here, for sticking with me through the changes and for allowing Matte Equation to evolve into something that feels real, authentic and aligned. This is just the beginning of an incredible journey, and I’m so excited to keep growing and glowing with you all.
